This February Gallery North welcomes
watercolor artist Mary Anderson and her show “The Colors of
Water.” The exhibition will include paintings that explore
two intriguing perspectives of water: the swimming,
multi-colored fish beneath the surface and the world above,
seen in reflection. Mary Anderson’s skillful and elegant
paintings depict the life of pond fish such as Japanese koi
and tropical reef fish found off the coast of the Hawaiian
Islands. In addition, other paintings depict the water and
how it reflects the sky, trees and light from above.
The paintings on display represent a
variety of watercolor techniques. In some paintings the
pigment was allowed to flow and mingle freely on the damp
surface of the paper. In other paintings the artist
controlled small areas of color with carefully applied
washes. In all, the results are beautiful intense, complex
colors and shapes that portray the vitality of water, above
and below the surface.
Edmonds artist, Mary Anderson has been
invited to exhibit her paintings in numerous juried shows
and venues in the Pacific Northwest and has received several
prestigious awards. She is an active member of the Women
Painters of Washington and Seattle Co-Arts. Mary also
teaches drawing and painting in the local community.
Meet Mary Anderson at the artist’s
reception on Saturday, February 7th from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served. Mary will also be at the
Edmonds Art Walk on Thursday, February 19th from 5:00 to
8:00 p.m.
