Gary Georger - Pottery

“Embrace the subtleties of the world and enjoy a quality of life.”

I work in a small back yard studio in Seattle creating a variety of functional pottery.  Planck Pottery was established June 2000. Named after my wife Lorena Planck, without her love and support it wouldn't have been the same.

I fell in love with clay and Lorena in college where I studied the Arts. I focused on oil painting and have always loved drawing. As fate would have it my medium soon turned to clay. The tactile quality, plasticity, and traditions of clay rang true in my heart. So I have been dirty for 12yrs. It is the endless possibilities in clay that intrigued me. An art form that I could always be learning. Using the earth and the elements to create is a beautiful gift and I take on the tradition with humble pride. As a potter I am a link in a vast chain of predecessors dating back to the early years of man's life. I am keenly aware of the timeless tradition of the potter's wheel and am inspired by it each time I sit before my own wheel. In my work, I do not attempt or intend to imitate what has been created before me. I am simply participating in this glorious tradition, always trying to bring my own unique, individual creativeness to the age honored art of pottery.

I produce functional pottery and sculptural vessel. In my more conceptual vessels I enjoy incorporating wood and grasses as additions to the forms. Uniting the earth to continue the lasting relations of the cycle of life.  The touch of the human hand, the imprint of concerned craftsmanship and the documentation of time are a direct vehicle of expression and communication between people and pots. My intent is to give the world the simple pleasure of quality in life. Enjoy a meal and the company of others. Surround yourself with beauty.
