Naomi Schneider - Woodworking - Kibori

I started woodcarving in 1982 when I began taking private classes in Japan. I started teaching woodcarving in 1994.  Woodcarving has been a continuous part of my life both as a student and a teacher.   I have produced many styles in this art, including Kibori.

Kibori is like an inscribed picture on wood, sometimes painted and other times in natural wood tones.  The most well known Kibori originated in Kamakura, Japan.  A tortoiseshell pattern is quite common. Themes vary from natural subjects to manmade objects.

I have displayed my works since 2006 at the “Japanese Cherry Blossom Festival” and “Aki Matsuri” that are held every year in Seattle.  I have also displayed my works for sale at some art festivals.  Now I have a main exhibit at Gallery North in Edmonds, WA.
