You’ve heard of fusion cooking - the cultural blending of flavors to make something new? Well, I’m a “fusion potter”. I was born in Maryland, lived in Ohio, California, Michigan, Colorado, New Mexico, Puerto Rico, Texas, Tennessee, South Florida, and now Washington State . Then there are all those places I’ve passed through and visited including Mexico and the land of my ancestors, Germany. The school I attended in New Mexico had 200 students from 75 different countries; my first roommate was from Kenya and the second was from Ecuador.
The fusion of accents, languages, cultures, ideas and art have been the nurturing soil I have grown in. Pottery has become a practical release and expression of this fusion soil.
“Pottery is a performance art that is only
completed in the hands of the user.” This expression taught to me as
an apprentice potter, has been my guide to work that is both useful
and playful and at its best, lovely. I apply the same pursuits to my
paper art cards. Watch all my work change as the “fusion” continues!
